Post Study Options

Temporary Graduate Visa

There are two types of temporary visas which allow you to work full time for a defined period of time.

  • Graduate Work Stream– this visa allows you and your family to work, travel and study in Australia for 18 months from the date of issue. The main criterion to be eligible for this visa is the type of qualification that you hold. Even if your qualification is below graduation, you can apply for the visa, but your qualification must be in a field that is much in demand.
  • Post Study Work Stream– this visa allows you and your family to work, travel and study in Australia for 2-4 years if you have graduated from Australia. Moreover, you are not eligible for the visa if you have applied for your student visa before November 5, 2011. Also, if your qualification is below graduation, then you are not eligible.

If you wish to settle permanently in Australia, then you can go for permanent visas. Skilled immigrants wishing to work and settle in Australia are judged based on the points system based on work experience, qualifications, and language proficiency. Skilled nominated visa

Skilled nominated visa allows skilled workers who are nominated by the state or government agencies to live and work in Australia. Post Study work arrangements

The Temporary Graduate visa (subclass 485) allows graduates to work in Australia temporarily after they finish their studies. It has two streams: the Graduate Work stream and the Post-Study Work stream.

The Graduate Work stream is for international students who graduate with skills and qualifications that relate to an occupation considered in demand in the Australian labor market, as indicated in the Skilled Occupation List (SOL). A visa in this stream is generally granted for 18 months.

The Post-Study Work stream offers extended options for working in Australia to eligible graduates of a higher education degree. Under this stream, successful applicants are granted a visa with a visa period of two, three or four years’ duration, depending on the highest educational qualification they have obtained.
